A wide variety of programs are offered at Spruce Meadow Farm. We operate a large lesson program for those with no previous experience through advanced riders. In addition to learning to ride, students also learn how to saftely handle the horses while they are grooming and tacking them up, and how to cool out and properly put away the horse. We feel that riding and horse care go hand in hand. Proper horse care is the basis of good horsemanship. The students at Spruce Meadow focus primarily on hunt seat riding with a basis in classical riding principles and techniques. Some students focus on and compete in dressage as well.
Our newest program is Kinder-Riding. This program is aimed for children ages 4-6. The four week program consists of four weekly one-hour sessions. We use games, stories, and songs to teach horse care and riding. Each session is limited to four children, and each child will have an adult helper with him or her at all times. The cost for the four week program is $200, with a 10% discount available for siblings. This program is already proving to be very popular, so if you're interested, call to find out about openings!
Clinics are offered on a regular basis and all are welcome to participate. We offer riding clinics and horsemanship clinics. In the past, we have offered a saddle-fitting clinic (taught by a certified master saddler), a fitting and showmanship clinic, and clinics for beginners to intermediates on how to safely handle and work around the horses. We have also held several riding clinics.
There are plenty of opportunities to compete in horse shows at Spruce Meadow and other farms in the WNY area. We hold at least three home shows each year; annual "in barn" Spring and Halloween shows; and a summertime open show that is part of a summer show series held in conjuction with Legacy Hunters of East Amherst.
Group programs are available for Girl Scout Troops (tours, rides, and badge programs), and other groups. Pony rides and parties at our farm or your location can be arranged for birthdays, picnics, reunions, and other events.
DAY CAMP PROGRAMS
We also feature Spring Break Day Camp, Summer Day Camp and 2 Winter Break Camp programs.
